Sisterly Love

rss feed sunshine9's blog feed

When my sister, Gina, and I get together, we have an amazing time. Unfortunately we are not just down the street from one another, we are a state away. However, I know that when everything in life comes tumbling down on me, I can always count on her. Gina has been there for me, for all of my milestones, good and bad.

I have so many wonderful childhood memories (though my sister may not consider all of them to be so wonderful, seeing as I was “the little sister”). For starters Mother dressed us alike (no we are not twins). I always had to be right on her skirt tails, because she was the COOLEST! I remember in the summer, being outside with the neighborhood kids. We would play school, and of course Gina was always the teacher. We loved singing together and pretending to be stars. We would sing to Donny and Marie (she was a little bit country, I was a little bit rock n roll). We were always excited to watch The Brady Bunch together right after dinner. Always sure not to miss the very beginning, because we knew every word to the theme song.

As children, I wanted to do everything like my big sister… but she wanted to be an individual. Now as adults we realize how similar we really are. Mother can even mistake us for one another on the phone.

The wonderful thing about sisters, is the love is unconditional. I truly love and adore my sister, Gina. The memories from our childhood are my fondest, and always make me smile. I am so proud to say “That is my sister Gina, I love her dearly”. God Bless her and her family.

    • I love it. Your story is fun and I bet it will spark some nice memories in others. Love the photos. The one of the two of you as children is so cute.

    • I love the story.  My sister and I are close although one state away!  We don’t see each other often but we talk on the phone several times a week.  My closest sister relationship is actually with my best “girlfriend“.  We have been friends for about 13 years and we have so much in common and can even finish each others sentences.  We know what the other is thinking and sometimes we can just catch a glimpse of each others eye and not even have to say anything in certain situations.  We call each other “sister” and I often crave her companionship because she is an ispiration to me with her outlook and most definitely her humor.  She has gotten me through a nasty  and very dramatic divorce after a 16 year marriage and I helped her as much as she would let me thru the murder of her brother-in-law and several surgeries. I would be there for her no matter what comes along. At times we don’t see each other for days or a week but I know that if I ever needed her or if she needed me..we are but a phone call away.  We are ‘sisters in spirit’ for sure.  I wish that every woman could experience this kind of true friendship. It means the world to me.

    • I am fortunate that my sis and i live in the same town. She and I are very close and she has been my rock through a lot of personal issues. We talk or email everyday and try to get together once a week or every other week for dinner and a movie or just to hang out. She just went through a messy divorce that he(he left her for someone else)decided to drag out for 3 years. It was so hard to watch her go through that but she amazed me constantly with her strenght and tenacity. I love her more than anything. She is one of the greatest blessings in my life
