Help! I think Lucky7 is dying.

rss feed chinadoll's blog feed

Please pray for Lucky7 – the runt of Cossie.  I did not sleep.  He is mourning.

I first took him away 3 hours ago for Cossie seemed to have shuffled him aside.  Then I hand fed him, put him in a small basket with heating pad and a heater next to him.  I slept for a little bit and I was woken up by him.  He was breathing hard, opened his mouth widely, and he cried.

I gave him back to Cossie.  She is licking him for now.

I don’t know what would happen.  Is Cossie gonna kill him?  What is happening? (I can’t type, again I am crying now)

Lucky7 has a strong character.  He fights for his life.  He is also very stubborn – which tells me he is strong and is a fighter.

I better hurry and publish this.  Please send your prayer – I am feeling as if one of my new born is sick or dying.  It is just a puppy – a special one.

    • Chinadoll, I would let Cossie lick and love up on Lucky#7 until she pushes him aside. That may be her way of telling you, I will love him as much as I can, but with all these other 9 pups, I need your help.
So, you and Cossie can just alternate shifts. When Cossie is tired and don’t have the strength for the sick one, she will push him over to you. They do tend to push the sick ones away because it takes all of her strength to keep the other ones healthy.
Cossie is very fortunate that she has you to help her.

    • I closed my eyes after I posted
and I got 2 hours of dream dose.
Lucky7 is not panting and I am going to bottle feed.
It is a complicated situation that I can’t call the vet till Dave the other owner gets here.
He will be here in 1/2 hour and it is his call for Vet and
his pocket he needs to outpour.
Long story short, we don’t own the puppies nor have any shares of profit

    • Chinadoll,
I think Dave will be thankful to you for all you have tried to do. Hopefully he will see the need to involve a vet, or comfort you that you are doing exactly what you need to. DON'T give him cow milk. Cossie's milk is still best for him. There is also a puppy replacement formula if she isn't producing enough. I have milked momma dogs before. Most are very patient, and it isn't that hard to get him a tiny bit extra. They don't drink that much in the first few days, but they do drink often. I am still rooting for Lucky 7. I say if he survives, he should be yours. :)

    • Ok, I just fed him.  He is such a survivor.  He seems back to its old weak self but not as threatening as this morning.  He will not suck a nipple (for sure he does not suck up!)  I use syringe and replacement formula as well as goat milk, drop by drop, onto his curly red little tongue.  He does swallow.  Like little baby, he burps and passes stool as the same time.

That poor little not so sucker, like a little worm crawler, crawled out of my lap and dropped on the floor.  He cried and gave grandma another heart attack.

Dave is now here and he bought some extra boost.  He decided not to tube feed him for it is dangerous if pump into the lung instead.

He said he would see how this booster work before he consider taking him to the Vet.

Lucky7 is a male and it worths a bit more tham girls, just because they have that little weaner (sp? n too direct)

He seems doing better and he sure is a trooper.  My hubby is depressed and stressed and he said 7 would sure die.  I told him if 7 is fighting, we should also fight with him.

A lot to learn from this period and I will blog on a journal and publish later.  Once I get all my act together.

Thank you for you cheers and be here with me.  Hugs, Love.

    • he will be ok. just keep him warm, make sure he gets fluids. You can just call the vet and ask what type of formula to get for him. Even try a pet/feed store.

    • Thank you, my fab sisters.  I feel like changing name of Lucky7 to Champ or Trooper.

He is doing well now.  I researched on the internet: many advised to use a heating pad but one site I found advise to use those herb/rice bag.  I have several of them and I heated that one in microwave – just warm enough and not too hot.  It is just right for Trooper/Lucky7/Champ (may be I should call him TLC for short and also since he gets all my TLC).  I also found a basket just for TLC. (picture forthcoming once I have more caffeine and prozac in me!)

Dave came and brought us a smaller nipple for premeies puppy.  He also brought a tube with tons of nutrients in it.  I fed TLC with that stuff and he perked up as well as good stool passing.

Thanks for all your support – Dave says he is a champion and we will see a lot of ribbons.

    • I am, I am, I am reliving my motherhood:
Mix formula, shake bottle till no bubbles, luke milk to warm, test milk temp on my waist, administrate drop by drop and burp, clean bottom (no diaper, I wish!), a warm bath, dry quickly, comfy and warm bed, roll up the hand towel and put by his sides, prevent from rolling out, turn every 15 mins to get circulations, clean up while he is sleeping, then he wakes up and do this all over again.

Did you recall and this is a great bush up!

And take care of yourself toooooooooo Chinadoll~!!

Is Cossie taking care of TLC or are you, or both?
I wanted to mention that if you notice TLC is NOT going to bathroom because Mommy is not helping, you can gently wipe
the genitals with something wet to give the feel to the mother’s tongue. This will help the baby to go to the bathroom.

    • Now Chinadoll is up.
We both took a good nap together.
I lied on the couch and cuddled the basket.
I heard my son yelled nervously, “where’s the puppy?”
In my dream, I recalled pointing to the basket
He cried “No mommy, he is not there!”
I was still on my side, then I realized TLC crawled up to my armpit.
My son said “You don’t do that again to me and don’t you squash him!”
I just fed him, like you girl told me, little tips here and there.
Like a little baby, he eats and poops and graphically speaking
      it is stinky.
I think he is surviving – he is definitely a fighter and thank you for rooting for him.

    • Stick with him. Night time usually is the ‘down’ time. Just like with little kids when they are sick. They seem better in the morning, and worse at night. If he will still eat for you at least a tiny bit, every 2 hours or so, and is pooping…you are doing good. I know this is very tiring BTDT, but I am rooting for him to pull through, and you both. :) Hopefully, you’ll both get some sleep. Having him under your armpit isn’t a bad thing (as long as you don’t roll over on him!) He has adopted you as mommy! :) I am sure he likes your warmth much better than the rice bag.

    • Cossie still loves him but she has 9 pups to care.  She basically tells me, she is through with him.
TLC knows the syringe, once touched his lips, he opened. Tongue curled up and let me put drops of milk in him.  Now I am up to 6–7 drops per feed.
I will put my pinky in his mouth just to stimulate the action of suck.  Once he can suck, we will give him a bottle and try Cossie.
I don’t know by then, Cossie may lose the bond.
Well, one minute, one hour, one day
Till I can go out and play.
