If you’ve looked at my profile pics, you have probably stumbled across the pic of my very handsome Shih-Tzu, Berkley. He came with that name…i’d have never chosen it.
Berkley came to our house one afternoon under the arm of my neice, Melissa, who was living with us at the time. She said that her BF bought this dog when she had her apartment and since she’d moved home, her BF’s father had relegated the dog to the basement…for days on end. Melissa decided that she had to rescue the pup.
When i first met Berkley, his hair was to the floor and he was in desperate need of making friends with a brush! When he was put before me, i sat and waited to see how he would respond to my family. It didn’t take long before his personality began to show and i was immediately smitten! I told my neice that i’d have to talk to my husband before i could promise to take the dog.
When my husband arrived home from work, i told him the situation and he asked, “Why do you want a dog?” Y‘see, he’d been the only obstacle between us being a no-pet family and a one-dog family. I responded to my husband’s question with, “You have to meet the dog. He has a very cool personality and i think you’ll like him.” Huz was not convinced. We talked about it a little bit more and he finally conceded to meeting the dog. I immediately called Melissa and told her to bring Berkley back to the house so that Uncle Paul could meet him.
Berkley never left. He was instantly attracted to my husband and hasn’t left his side, yet. If my husband takes one step, Berkley takes two. If my husband sits, Berkley is in his lap. If my husband lays down, Berkley jumps onto him and lays down either on top of him or beside him. When my husband gets home from work (or anywhere else), Berkley is jumping up and down with glee when he walks into the door. Berkley even sits on the back of “Daddy’s” leather chair and watches out the window for people to come home…most especially my husband, Berkley’s human Daddy. If i tease, and ask Berkley, “Is your Daddy home?” he will run to the window and look…and he is not happy if there is no Daddy.
One of the most outstanding personality traits of this dog is his resemblance to a CAT! Yes, that’s what i said…our dog is part cat. I used to call him “Puppy Cat” but huz told me i needed to stop that before i gave the dog an identity crisis. If i call Berkley to come to me, he looks at me like i’m crazy. Does he come when he is called, like NORMAL dogs do? No. Berkley is also very particular what treats he will eat and under what conditions he will eat them. You can’t give him ONE treat…he must have TWO before he will eat one. And probably the most feline trait this dog has, is his love of sleeping on the backs of chairs and sofas. Case and point…
This is where i found him this afternoon when i arrived home from taking Kelly to a friend’s.
I just thought i’d share…he’s brought our family so much laughter and joy in the 5+ years since he’s arrived.
Oh my gosh… I love Berkley!!
We are planning on getting adog, had in fact planned to have her by Christmas, but I just don’t think the time is right yet.
We used to have a kitty dog, though! His name was Mittens and he was a cat, although he thought he was a dog. He used to walk with Jonathan to the bus stop in the mornings and 4 out of 5 afternoons he would be waiting for J when the bus pulled up after school. He would also chase dogs (and some kids!) right out of our yard when he was feeling territorial.
I’d like to think Berkley and Mittens would have been good friends, lol.

Have you seen the new feathermaye ?
Oh my gosh..I’m in love too…we were planning on taking the kids to the pound or shelter in the New Year so they can pick out a ‘small’ dog..I think that’s all we can handle right now…we used to have a chocolate Cocker Spaniel,(sp) but he was so set in his ways when we got him, we could no longer keep him…plus, for some reason, he always attacked the baby’s clothes and got hold of his diapers and tore them to shreds…time for doggie to go then!!!

What an adorable dog! He is SO CUTE~! I too just want to snuggle with him. Thankyou for sharing your “furry angel”
with us~!
I think our dogs might be distant cousins. My Jules wanted to sit on my shoulder in the car when I was bringing her home as a baby. She kept climbing to get up there.
And she still prefers to be at the top level of my favorite
chair that is a lazy boy. People find it hilarious.
Berkley looks sooooooooo comfortable and what a neat name!
Our “furry babies” bring us such joy, I cannot imagine my world without mine.
Too cute for words.

Super cute story!
So cute and cuddly! I just want to pick him up and give him a big hug!
I am jealous. I want an inside doggy so bad. I don’t think it’s worth a divorce though. :( Berkley is just too cute! If ever I get an inside pooch it will be a long haired love like with an irresistable face like his.

Awww so cute, I too have a small dog named shelby she is really my husbands dog she just loves him and he loves her..Well he spoils her.
When we got her she was a puppy, I wanted a female dog for me, we already had a norweigen elkhound named jake he is gone now I had to put him to sleep a couple of months ago and that was really hard. we got shelby from a house down the street from us (the couple breeds dogs) she was just a small ball of furr I fell in love!! Well at the house in the kennell shelby had a brother and he was very small and just a cute but I wanted a female. So my husband ended up doing the floors in that house and everyday he would come home crying that he wanted to bring home shelby’s brother and I told him that we could not have 3 dogs (at that time jake was still with us) but he insisted, he also told me that the other dogs were picking on him and so we went and got him and brought him home and named him grizzly bear here is a picture of griz
