My cleaning Godsend is Goo Gone. I use it all the time because I make candles and have to clean up wax and dye. My husband accidentally washed a Chapstick and it got all over his shirts. He sprayed Goo Gone before he re-washed, and the greasy stain came out. It even took the paint off the front fender of my white roadster the time I scraped it against the garage.

Another product that works on a lot of things is Oxyclean. I add it to the laundry to get the stains out of my socks and paint out of my shirts. (I teach music and art at Gymboree and we are not allowed to wear shoes) It also works great cleaning stains out of the carpet.

The best cleaning tip I ever got was to marry a man who didn’t mind doing all the cleaning.

Boy did I capitalize on that little gem.

Sorry, Yana, we like the cleaning smells. Of course, during and for a while after, we burn scented candles. A good, rich candle will help to eliminate that chemical smell.

When they would have a open house the house smelled so good.  Finally, I asked my friend what were they using and it was one of the freshners hidden some behind some greenery. Some of the homes smelled like bubble gum and it was funny seeing the customer walking through sniffing the air.  

Mulberry is my favorite and the number one seller.  I purchased one of the machines (this was in 93) and it still works like new! They really have great sales during the holidays. Everytime I have company over they ask about it and of course it’s hidden behind some decor. :>)

I have to admit that I LIKE to clean. I know… I’m a weirdo. ~Ha Ha    

Candles are a great way to eliminate “that” just cleaned
smell.  

Yana,I really like my candle warmers a lot. This way you don’t have to worry about candle soot on the ceiling.
I like the candle wamer that is flat, and a large candle sits on top of it. It has an on/off switch. The candle holds it’s scent for months and months.
In addition, whether it is safe or not…. I keep a candle on a candle warmer going 24 hours, every day, in the room that the cat litter box is in. If I have to have a cat because I live in the country to keep the mice away, I want something that eliminates any evidence of a cat’s liter box.

In lieu of candles…. nothing says,“romance,” or gives your
house that wonderful"homey" feeling like a candle and it's flame in the evening.  IS THERE A WAY TO SAFELY remove soot from the ceiling ?????????????????????????

I also like using candles to freshen up a room.
I really like my candle warmer that I can sit a large candle on. It has an off/on switch that makes it easy to use, without unplugging it. Whether right or wrong, I have a candle on a warmer that stays on twenty-four hours a day,
7 days a week in the room that the cat liter box is in.
The candle makes sure there is no evidence of a liter box present. I live in the country and an indoor cat is a must.
The candles aroma last for up to 3 to 4 months.
Note: That is for the particular candle I use.

Nothing says “Home,” or “Romance,” like a candle with it’s flame flickering however….......
Is there a proper way to clean soot from the ceiling ?????

“Touch It Once“...this is the approach that works to help keep my home organized and clutter free. Put things where they go the first time it is in your hands. This way you don’t forget about it and it just winds up in another “to do” pile.

I also like to open the box of kitchen bags and place them all in the bottom of my trash can. That way when I remove a full one, I can replace the bag right away.

Store things where you use them!

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to free my shower doors from that awful crappy-looking, scummy, cloudy film?  Did I mention how crappy it looks?  I’ve tried a ton of different products, techniques, etc. and haven’t had much luck.  And we don’t have hard water!  Anyway, whatever suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated.  I’d really like to take a blow torch to them, but am afraid of singeing my eyebrows.  :-)

Vinegar will work on that shower door scum, too.

We had a well at our last house, and our dishes would come out of the dishwasher covered in a white, chalky film.

We started putting 1/2 cup of vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher with each load of dishes and they came out sparkling.

I am having such a great time reading your post of suggestions. And Lucinda...no shame in letting us know where we can buy such a wonderful accessorie for our candles! And COOOOOooool now I know how I can use all of my millions of tarts,and votives left over from my gift shop.
I will put them in a heart resistant container and put them on my warmer. Did I already say Yea  Hee Hee

I have some good tips to try this weekend! Starting with using vinegar in my dishwasher this morning! WooHooooo

One of my MOST favorite household products is “The Works.”
I couldn’t live without it. Before I had my home connected from well to city water, The Works was the ONLY product that
would lift the awful rust stain in my shower,etc.
And even though I have city water, arghhhhhh, I still have some sort of slight rust stain. (What gives)  But “The Works” does work. And I also guarentee it takes off the scum of glass!!!  If they stopped making “that” product I would be screwed!!!

I better send this before it gives me a time out!

I just thought of another great hint that you all might like, since I just removed my cup from the microwave.

I worked at Pillsbury for a number of years and since there were so many workers using only two microwaves,of course it would become pretty “icky” during the week. To aid in getting any stuck food,etc. out the sanitation workers would add a little water to the bottom and sides and turn it on for, (however long), and sure enough… it made it a breeze to clean.

It is so nice to know there are little things we can do to help us with those annoying household chores, isn’t it? lol

I have a helpful hint for shaving…use hot running water and your favorite lotion!  It’s especially effective under the arms where my skin is sensitive.  No knicks or cuts ever! Also,  I don’t wash it off after, just wipe the excess lotion off with a soft wash cloth.

If your stove top gets a lil on the nasty side a good and easy way to clean it is to use oven cleaner.  Just follow directions as if you were cleaning the inside of the oven and voila! the goop comes right off.

I am a steamed lady .. I have steamer for the floor, another hand carried steamer for blinds, yes, anther steamer for my clothes.  This way it would be chemical free and steam kills most germ.

Unique and Useful Tips!

Reheat Pizza:

Heat up leftover pizza in a non-stick skillet on top of the
stove, set heat to med-low and heat until warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

Easy Deviled Eggs:

Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they
are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the corner tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

Expanding Frosting:

When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store,
whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar/calories per serving.

Reheating refrigerated bread:

To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

Newspaper weeds away:

Start putting in your plants; work the nutrients in your
soil.  Wet newspapers put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening  plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.

Broken Glass:

Use a dry cotton ball to pick up little broken glass pieces of glass- the fibers catch ones you can’t see!

No More Mosquitoes:

Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

Squirrel Away:

To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn’t hurt the plant and the squirrels won’t come near it.

Flexible vacuum:

To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum hose. It  can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

Reducing Static Cling:

Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when weari ng panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and – voila –  static is gone.

Measuring Cups:

Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill it  with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don’t dry the cup. Next, add  your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes  right out.

Foggy Windshield:

Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser!  Works better than a cloth!

Reopening envelope:

If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Voila! It unseals easily.

Conditioner:

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It’s a lot  cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It’s also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn’t like when you tried it in your hair…

Goodbye Fruit Flies:

To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass fill it  1/2” with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dishwashing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Get Rid of Ants:

Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it “home,” & can’t digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, esp. if it rains, but it works & you don’t have the worry about  pets or small children being harmed!

Take baby powder to the beach:

Keep a small bottle of baby powder in your beach bag. When your ready to leave the beach sprinkle yourself and kids with the powder and  the sand will slide right off your skin.
